A proposal of simultaneous measurement method of conductance and propagation time using piezo-electric ceramics

ABSTRACT
The multifunctional sensor using piezo-electric ceramics was proposed The proposed sensor not only measures the ultrasonic property of the object using the piezoelectric ceramics but also measures its electrical property using the electrodes which are applied on the surface of the ceramics. Therefore, various parameters such as temperature and ingredient of the object in same space are estimated using electrical and ultrasonic properties obtained by the proposed method. In this paper, simultaneous measurement method of conductance and propagation time by the multifunctional sensor using the piezo-electric ceramics is proposed. As the experiment, propagation time and conductance of 3 types of samples with different viscosity were measured by a pair of piezo-electric ceramics at temperature of 20oC,25 oC and 30 oC. As a result, temperature and glycerol concentration as viscosity change of the sample were estimated by using the measured conductance and propagation time. Therefore, the possibility of simultaneous measurements of electrical and ultrasonic properties of the object in same space using the piezo-electric ceramics was shown.
