ABSTRACT
It is difficult to learn the I/O control because of mastering both
hardware and software simultaneously. As a solution to the problem,
we have developed a virtual single board computer x80 based on the
Zilog Z80CPU architecture, which makes it easy to learn the I/O
control. The present x80 is furnished with virtual devices which
comprise 24 keys for input and 8 seven-segment LEDs for output.
These devices will be driven by a simulated 8255(PPI) peripheral chip.
The x80 is realized under the environment of the X Window System
based on UNIX Operating System and one can experience a study for its
fundamentals such as controlling LEDs by PPI. The paper describes the
new implementation for the function of periodical signals output.
